Known by an assortment of names, our island is
a package of such diverse delights that she had
more than her share of conquerors. Once they came,
they stayed.. giving us a rich mosaic of languages,
cultures, traditions and religions.
This tiny drop-shaped island has a documented
history dating back to 500 years BC, a rich cultural
heritage, breathtakingly beautiful landscapes
from lowland to mountains, and palm fringed golden
beaches.
On our classical tour you will see some of the
more famous and beautiful things that our land
has to offer. From beaches to wildlife to ancient
cities. So come join us in Sri Lanka and live
a few days amidst beauty, warmth and hospitality;

Ancient
City Tours
History carved in stone...
Sri Lanka's rich cultural heritage stretches back
over 2500 years and many a historical site is preserved
within an area known as the cultural triangle.
The ruined cities of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa,
Dumbulla, and Mihintale convey the grandeur of
a rich civilization. Visits to Aukana, Ritigala,
Medirigiriya and Yapahuwa offer glimpses of a
long-vanished historic era.
Explore the impressive remains of palaces, ornamental
pools, archways, audience halls, ponds and temples
built from stone and granite. Enormous irrigation
tanks or reservoirs built over 2000 years ago
still continue to function perfectly today. A
tribute to the skill of our ancient engineers.
The ruins of Sigiriya - A palace built on top
of a 600 foot rock is a superb example of ingenuity,
skill and the vanity of a patricidal Sri Lankan
King.

Wildlife
Safari Tours
We are fortunate to be gifted by nature a wealth
of animal life & luxuriant vegetation. Today
14% of our small island is dedicated to sanctuaries
and nature reserves. Much of the fauna is of Indian
origin, due to the fact that millions of years ago
the 2 countries were bridged by a strip of land.
The period of separation has been sufficient for
distinctive indigenous fauna to evolve and 19% are
new species, totally endemic to Sri Lanka.
Of the 86 species of mammals, pride of place goes
to the majestic Elephant - the second largest terrestrial
animal surviving today. While Sri Lanka does not
have Lions & Tigers, 4 species of Cats including
the Leopard are seen regularly in the wildlife parks.
Other exotic species commonly seen are the Sloth
Bear and many varieties of Deer, Monkeys including
the endemic Macaque, Purple Faced Leaf Monkey and
Shaggy Bear Monkey. More common species are Wild
boar, Jackals, Mongoose, Porcupines, Giant Squirrels,
many species of Rats and Shrews and the aggressive
and dangerous Wild Buffalo.
Lakes and estuaries in the national parks attract
the 2 species of Crocodiles endemic to Sri Lanka.
5 species of turtles frequent our island's beaches
to lay eggs.
Legend has it that the world's first wildlife
sanctuary was created in Sri Lanka by a King in
the 3rd century BC. It is recorded in the ancient
Buddhist scriptures - "The King decreed that
all human beings should follow the hallowed Buddhist
precept of not harming any form of life".

Bird
Watching Tours
With 427 species on the island's avifaunal list,
Sri Lanka has no rival for sheer concentration
of bird life. 250 are residents of which 26 are
endemic species... between August and April there
is a regular influx of about 170 migrants.
The country has birds everywhere... in woods,
hills and along the seashore! A wealth of them
can be found at the national parks, bird sanctuaries,
precincts of man-made reservoirs and tanks, river
banks, lagoons, salterns and rain forests.
The country's wide variations in elevation, from
sea level to 2,530 meters & rainfall that
ranges from from 100 cm in the dry zones of the
north & south to 500 cm in the central mountains
create a variety of climatic conditions within
short distances rarely found in any other part
of the world.
Though the programme is planned primarily for
bird watching a few of the main places of historical,
cultural & scenic interest have been included
in order to let you experience some of the other
interesting facets of Sri Lanka.
